The Red Sea is a mediterranean sea between the Arabian Peninsula and northeastern Africa, forming an inlet of the Indian Ocean. It connects southward to the ocean through the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait and Gulf of Aden, while its northern end includes the Gulfs of Suez and Aqaba near the Sinai Peninsula; it is underlain by the Red Sea Rift.
