Kiwi are flightless birds endemic to New Zealand belonging to the genus Apteryx and family Apterygidae. They are the smallest living ratites and are highly unique for their hair-like feathers, lack of a visible tail, and nostrils located at the end of their long, flexible bills. The kiwi is a prominent national symbol of New Zealand, and its name is also used as a colloquial demonym for New Zealanders.
