Government transparency, often conceptualized as open government, is the governing doctrine which maintains that citizens have the right to access the documents, proceedings, and decision-making processes of the government to allow for effective public oversight. It stands in opposition to state secrecy and is considered a fundamental pillar of democratic accountability, public trust, and anti-corruption efforts.
