A whistleblower is a person, often an employee, who reveals information about activity within a private or public organization that is deemed wrongful, such as illegal, immoral, unsafe, or fraudulent conduct. Whistleblowers can communicate their findings internally to supervisors or compliance departments, or externally to law enforcement, media, or the public. Many jurisdictions have established legal protections and channels to shield whistleblowers from retaliation.
