The U.S. Navy Marine Mammal Program (NMMP) is a military program administered by the United States Navy that studies and trains marine mammals, principally bottlenose dolphins and California sea lions. Based in San Diego, California, the program trains these animals to perform critical tasks such as ship and harbor protection, mine detection and clearance, and equipment recovery.
