TIP Skills
Topic
TIP (often expanded as TIPP) is a set of distress tolerance skills in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) designed to help individuals rapidly reduce intense emotional arousal. The acronym stands for Temperature, Intense exercise, Paced breathing, and Paired muscle relaxation, which work by changing the body's chemistry to calm the nervous system. These physiological interventions are used to manage crisis situations and prevent impulsive behaviors.
