Simón Bolívar was a Venezuelan military and political leader who led what are currently the countries of Venezuela, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Panama to independence from the Spanish Empire. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the history of the Americas, serving as the president of several of these newly formed nations.
