Shadow libraries are online repositories that provide free access to digital media, such as academic papers, textbooks, and ebooks, which are normally paywalled or restricted. Often referred to as pirate libraries or black open access, they operate outside of traditional copyright frameworks to facilitate global information sharing. Examples of prominent shadow libraries include Sci-Hub, Library Genesis, and Z-Library.
