Sam Zell was an American billionaire investor and entrepreneur known for pioneering large-scale real-estate investment and for founding Equity Group Investments. Often called the “Grave Dancer,” he specialized in acquiring distressed assets and was also an early major investor in companies including Equity Residential and Equity Office Properties.
