A reaction wheel is an attitude control device consisting of an electric motor attached to a flywheel. By changing its rotation speed, it causes a proportional counter-rotation of the spacecraft through the conservation of angular momentum. Unlike thrusters, reaction wheels provide highly precise pointing control without expending propellant.
