Jaak Panksepp (1943–2017) was an Estonian-American neuroscientist and psychobiologist who coined the term "affective neuroscience." He was a pioneer in the study of mammalian emotions, identifying seven primary emotional systems through his research on the neural mechanisms of emotion.
