The handoff model is a traditional operational framework in software engineering and product development where tasks progress linearly through distinct, siloed phases. In this model, product managers define requirements, designers create the visual assets, and engineers subsequently receive these completed specifications to begin implementation. While historically common, the model is increasingly criticized for creating communication silos and is being replaced by more collaborative, cross-functional workflows.
