Dinosaurs are a diverse group of reptiles of the clade Dinosauria that first appeared during the Triassic period. They became the dominant terrestrial vertebrates after the Triassic–Jurassic extinction event and continued their dominance through the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. The fossil record indicates that modern birds are feathered dinosaurs that evolved from earlier theropods.
