The white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) is a medium-sized species of deer native to North and South America. It is highly adaptable and stands as the most widely distributed mainland ungulate herbivore in the Americas. The species is easily recognized by the white underside of its tail, which it raises as a warning signal when alarmed.
