Webster's Dictionary refers primarily to the American English dictionaries edited by lexicographer Noah Webster in the early 19th century, especially An American Dictionary of the English Language (1828). The name has also been adopted by numerous later dictionaries and became a genericized trademark in the United States for American English dictionaries.
