Victimhood culture is a sociological concept describing a moral framework where individuals or groups emphasize their marginalization, suffering, or status as victims to gain social status, moral authority, or third-party support. First conceptualized by sociologists Bradley Campbell and Jason Manning, it is characterized by a high sensitivity to slight offenses (microaggressions) and a tendency to appeal to authority figures or the public rather than resolving conflicts directly. It is often contrasted with honor cultures, which rely on physical self-defense, and dignity cultures, which emphasize personal restraint and formal equality.
