A vaccine is a biological preparation that provides active acquired immunity to a particular infectious or malignant disease. It typically contains an agent resembling a disease-causing microorganism, often made from weakened or killed forms of the microbe, its toxins, or its surface proteins. This agent stimulates the body's immune system to recognize and destroy the pathogen upon future exposure.
