Urinary tract infection
Topic
A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that affects any part of the urinary tract, including the bladder, urethra, and kidneys. Lower urinary tract infections typically affect the bladder (cystitis) or urethra, causing symptoms like painful urination and a frequent urge to urinate. Upper urinary tract infections affect the kidneys (pyelonephritis) and can lead to more systemic symptoms such as fever and flank pain.
