Ultra-marathon running is an extreme endurance sport consisting of footraces that exceed the traditional marathon distance of 42.195 kilometers (26.2 miles). These events can be based on covering a specified distance, such as 50 kilometers, 100 miles, or longer, or on completing as much distance as possible within a set time frame ranging from 6 hours to multiple days. Races are held on various terrains, including paved roads, athletic tracks, and rugged trail networks.
