Tooth enamel is one of the four major tissues that make up the tooth in humans and many other animals. It forms the highly mineralized, extremely hard outer layer that covers the visible crown of the tooth, serving as a protective barrier against physical and chemical damage. Unlike other dental tissues, mature enamel contains no living cells and cannot regenerate once damaged.
