The Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station is a decommissioned nuclear power plant located on Three Mile Island in the Susquehanna River, south of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It is best known for the March 1979 partial meltdown of its Unit 2 reactor, which remains the most significant accident in U.S. commercial nuclear power plant history. Unit 1 of the facility continued operating until it was shut down in September 2019.
