Theodora was an influential Byzantine empress and the wife of Emperor Justinian I. She is famously depicted in the historic 1,500-year-old mosaics of the Basilica di San Vitale in Ravenna, Italy. She played a significant role during Justinian's reign, which was notable for his peasant origins and massive codification of Roman law.
