Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is a temporary immigration status granted by the United States government to eligible nationals of designated countries who are already present in the U.S. It is authorized by the Secretary of Homeland Security for individuals whose home countries are experiencing ongoing armed conflict, environmental disasters, or other extraordinary and temporary conditions. Beneficiaries of TPS are protected from removal and are eligible to obtain work authorization.
