A system is a group of interacting or interrelated elements that act according to a set of rules or constraints to form a unified whole. Surrounded and influenced by its environment, a system is characterized by its boundaries, structure, purpose, and functioning. Systems are the primary subject of study in systems theory and other systems sciences.
