Sperm is the male reproductive cell, or gamete, in anisogamous forms of sexual reproduction. In animals, these cells are typically motile and possess a tail-like flagellum, in which case they are referred to as spermatozoa. Sperm cells contribute approximately half of the nuclear genetic information to the diploid offspring during fertilization.
