Sparsification is a technique in computer science and applied mathematics that approximates a dense structure, such as a graph or network, with a much sparser counterpart containing fewer edges or components. The goal of sparsification is to significantly reduce computational complexity and storage requirements while preserving key structural, spectral, or dynamical properties of the original system.
