The Solar System is the gravitationally bound system of the Sun and the objects that orbit it, most prominently its eight planets, of which Earth is one. It formed approximately 4.6 billion years ago from the gravitational collapse of a giant interstellar molecular cloud. The system is located in the Orion Cygnus Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy.
