A social construct is any category, concept, or thing that is made real through convention, collective agreement, or shared social practice. Unlike natural kinds, which exist independently of human behavior or beliefs, socially constructed realities are created and maintained by human interaction and cultural norms. Examples include money, gender roles, citizenship, and social status.
