Sleep cycle
Topic
The sleep cycle is an oscillation between the slow-wave (NREM) and REM (paradoxical) phases of sleep. In humans, this ultradian cycle typically lasts between 70 and 110 minutes and repeats several times throughout a normal night's sleep. It is distinct from the circadian rhythm, which regulates the overall daily alternation between sleep and wakefulness.
