Shark Week is an annual, week-long programming block on the Discovery Channel dedicated to shark-themed programming. Originally created to promote conservation efforts and correct misconceptions about sharks, it has grown into a highly popular pop-culture phenomenon and the longest-running cable television programming event in history.
