Sexual overperception bias is a cognitive bias that occurs when an individual, typically male, overestimates the level of sexual interest another person has in them. Rooted in evolutionary psychology and error management theory, this bias suggests that natural selection favored men who over-inferred sexual interest because the evolutionary cost of missing a mating opportunity (a false negative) was higher than the cost of a false positive.
