Sensory map

Topic

Sensory maps are areas of the brain that respond to sensory stimulation and are spatially organized according to specific features of that stimulation. They often form topographic representations of sensory surfaces, such as the skin, cochlea, or retina, or represent complex stimulus properties derived from neuronal computation. Examples include the somatosensory map, which projects the body's surface onto the postcentral gyrus.
