Sensory deprivation
Topic
Sensory deprivation, also known as perceptual isolation, is the deliberate reduction or removal of stimuli from one or more of the senses. It can be achieved using simple devices like blindfolds and earmuffs, or more complex environments such as isolation tanks that block out light, sound, and tactile sensations. While short-term sensory deprivation is often used for relaxation and alternative therapy, prolonged exposure can lead to hallucinations, anxiety, and cognitive distortions.
