Self-reliance, closely related to self-sufficiency and self-sustainability, is a state of being in which an individual, community, or system requires little to no external assistance to meet its essential needs. It represents a form of personal or collective autonomy, emphasizing independence and the capacity to maintain oneself indefinitely. In economic terms, a completely self-sufficient entity or nation that operates without external trade is known as an autarky.
