A selective antioxidant is a therapeutic agent or compound that targets and neutralizes specific highly cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as hydroxyl radicals and peroxynitrite, while leaving physiologically beneficial signaling radicals unaffected. This targeted approach helps mitigate severe oxidative stress and cellular damage without disrupting essential cellular signaling pathways.
