Scientific truth refers to the status of statements, theories, or models about the natural world that are verified through rigorous observation, experimentation, and the scientific method. In the philosophy of science, the nature of scientific truth is a central subject of debate, primarily contested between scientific realists, who argue that science aims for and approaches objective truth about reality, and antirealists, who view scientific theories as useful instruments rather than literal truths. Unlike absolute or timeless truths, scientific truths are generally understood to be provisional, subject to revision or refinement as new empirical evidence and better explanatory frameworks emerge.
