A scam, or confidence trick, is an attempt to defraud a person or group after first gaining their trust. These deceptive schemes exploit victims by leveraging their credulity, naivety, compassion, vanity, or greed. They are designed to benefit the perpetrator at the financial or personal expense of the victim.
