Roulette is a popular casino game named after the French word meaning "little wheel," which likely developed from the Italian game Biribi. Players place bets on a single number, various groupings of numbers, the colors red or black, whether the number is odd or even, or if the numbers are high or low. A croupier spins a wheel in one direction and a small ball in the opposite direction, with the winning bets determined by where the ball eventually comes to rest.
