Roman citizenship
Topic
Roman citizenship (Latin: civitas) was a privileged political and legal status afforded to free individuals in ancient Rome, granting them specific rights regarding laws, property, and governance. This complex status varied significantly based on gender, social class, and political affiliation, evolving throughout the history of the Roman Republic and Empire. It was eventually extended to all free inhabitants of the empire under the Edict of Caracalla in 212 AD.
