Richard Nathan Haass is an American diplomat who served as president of the Council on Foreign Relations from 2003 to 2023 and is now its president emeritus. He previously directed the U.S. Department of State’s Policy Planning staff and advised Secretary of State Colin Powell. Haass is known for his work on U.S. foreign policy and international affairs.
