Reproductive skew is an evolutionary and ecological concept that describes the unequal partitioning of reproductive success among members of a social group. In high-skew societies, reproduction is monopolized by a few dominant individuals, whereas in low-skew societies, breeding opportunities are more evenly distributed among group members. This phenomenon is widely studied in cooperative breeders, eusocial insects, and social mammals to understand the evolution of sociality and reproductive suppression.
