Recursive self-improvement is a hypothetical process in which an artificial general intelligence system autonomously rewrites and optimizes its own computer code. This self-directed enhancement of its own capabilities and intellectual capacity could theoretically trigger a rapid feedback loop known as an intelligence explosion, leading to the emergence of superintelligence.
