Rapid eye movement sleep
Topic
Rapid eye movement sleep (REM sleep) is a unique phase of sleep in mammals, birds, and some reptiles, characterized by random rapid movement of the eyes, low muscle tone throughout the body, and a high propensity for vivid dreaming. During this stage, brain activity is highly active, resembling wakefulness, while the body's core temperature and homeostatic regulations fluctuate.
