In philosophy, pure will (often referred to simply as the will) is a fundamental faculty of the mind responsible for deliberate action, choice, and volition. It is a central concept in ethics and metaphysics, notably explored by Immanuel Kant as a rational agency independent of sensory desires, and by Arthur Schopenhauer as the underlying metaphysical reality of the universe.
