The PRIMA retinal implant is a wireless, subretinal photovoltaic prosthesis designed to restore central vision in patients suffering from advanced geographic atrophy due to age-related macular degeneration. Developed by Daniel Palanker at Stanford University and commercialized by Pixium Vision and Science Corporation, the system uses a microchip implant paired with camera-equipped glasses to stimulate surviving retinal neurons.
