A pre-cooler (or precooler) is a heat exchanger system used in precooled jet engines to cool incoming ram-compressed air before it enters the engine compressor. This process prevents performance degradation and thermal damage at high supersonic or hypersonic speeds, allowing turbomachinery to operate efficiently under extreme ram temperatures.
