Pneumonic plague is a severe lung infection caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis. It is the most virulent form of plague and can be transmitted from person to person through airborne droplets. Symptoms include fever, headache, shortness of breath, chest pain, and coughing up blood, with a high mortality rate if left untreated.
