A planetary sunshade, also known as a space sunshade or sunshield, is a hypothetical geoengineering structure designed to divert or reduce solar radiation before it reaches Earth. By positioning a large occulting disc or reflective technology between the Earth and the Sun, it aims to decrease global insolation and mitigate the effects of global warming.
