Pivoting (computer security)

Topic

Pivoting is a post-exploitation technique in computer security where an attacker uses a compromised system to attack or gain access to other systems on the same network. By routing traffic through the compromised host, the attacker can bypass firewalls and access isolated network segments that are not directly reachable from the outside. This method is fundamental to lateral movement and is widely used in advanced persistent threat (APT) attacks and penetration testing.
