Paxil is the brand name for paroxetine, a prescription antidepressant in the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class. It is used to treat conditions including major depressive disorder, obsessive–compulsive disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.
